Louis Neyland Smith, Sr.

Louis Neyland Smith, Sr., 68, a native of Woodville, MS and resident of St. Francisville, LA, passed away at his camp and second home in Leslie, AR, on Saturday, September 5, 2026. He was born on Wednesday, August 20, 1958, to Edward Larkin Smith, Jr. and Lillian Laverne “Peggy” Wheeler Smith.

Neyland was a retired log truck driver and a very loving husband, father and grandfather. He was a kind and gentle soul that would help others before helping himself.

He is survived by his wife of 45 years, Susan Smith of St. Francisville, LA, two sons; Louis Neyland Smith, Jr. of Jackson, LA, and Jonathan Ross Smith of St. Francisville, LA, one daughter; Rebecca Renae Russell (Johnny) of Woodville, MS, three granddaughters; Emily Margaret Russell and Madeline Claire Russell of Woodville, MS and Bradleigh Mae Smith of Jackson, LA, four brothers; Edward Kirkland Smith, Sr. (Donna) of Leslie, AR, Stewart Clayton Smith (Heather) of Woodville, MS, Clifton Lane Smith, Sr. (Angela) of New Iberia, LA and Patrick Whitman Smith (Michelle) of Central, LA and numerous nieces and nephews.

Neyland was preceded in death by his parents, a son, William Bradley Smith and a brother, Vernon Larkin Smith, Sr.

A private family gathering will be planned for the near future.
