Linda Wood Carter was born in Woodville to Julia Wood and Phayes Carter, both of Woodville, on June 8, 1941.

Linda graduated from Woodville High School in 1959 and was salutatorian of her class. In 1963, she graduated from USM with a degree in elementary education.

Linda taught first or second grade in Purvis, Ms., Pensacola, Fla., Metairie, La., Woodville and Centreville. She was later a secretary at the Wilkinson County extension office.

Visitation will be Saturday, September 9, 2026, from 9:00 a.m. until time of service at 10:00 a.m. at Woodville Methodist Church, 909 Main Street, Woodville, MS. Interment in Evergreen Cemetery under the direction of Newman Funeral Home.

She was caretaker to her mother, her aunt, then finally her sister.

Linda loved our Lord Jesus Christ and her family. She is survived by 2 sisters, Billie Faye Carter and Mary Ann Koonce; niece, Joy Tuneberg (Mike); nephews, Bill Koonce (Lori) and Jeff Koonce (Edy); grandnieces and nephews, Jackie Watts, Julia Andrews (Tyler), Dr. Eleanor Oubre (Richard), Anna Koonce, Drew Koonce (Kaitlin), Seth Tuneberg (Allie), Jefferson Koonce; great grands, Liam and Graham Watts and Lily Tuneberg
