Frances Rae Varnado Boatner

Frances Varnado Boatner, 91, of Norwood, LA, passed away at Grace Health and Rehab Center on Friday, September 11, 2026. She was born on Tuesday, January 22, 1935, in Riverside, CA to Mannie Ray and Orene Walters Varnado.

Visitation will be Sunday, September 13, 2026, at Norwood Baptist Church from 2:00 p.m. until time of service at 4:oo p.m. with Reverend Jack Varnado, Reverend Joe Ratcliff and Reverend Cory McGhee officiating. Interment will be at Hillcrest Cemetery under the direction of Newman Funeral Home.

Frances is survived by two daughters; Rebecca Boatner and Sandra B. Newman (Richard), one son; John Milton “Scooter” Boatner, Jr., nine grandchildren, twenty-three great grandchildren and fifteen great-great grandchildren, one brother, Jack Varnado and two sisters, Sue Matte and Dorothy Owens.

Preceded in death by her husband of 63 years, John Milton Boatner, Sr., her parents, one brother, Richard Varnado, one sister, Bessie Bond and two great grandchildren, Michael Ray Reason, Jr. and Aubrey Ellyn Morgan.

Frances was a member of Norwood Baptist Church and enjoyed cooking for all five generations of her family, canning all types of foods and playing softball.

Pallbearers are her grandsons; Jude Reason, Michael Reason, Rich Newman, Johnathan Newman, Bryan Boatner and Brandon Boatner
